Cinderella, 2022
Steve White wrote this pantomime specially for Blewbury. It was full of laughs, live music, songs, dance and ridiculousness! Elphin Lloyd-Jones designed the set and costumes and we performed in the newly refurbished Village Hall.
His Royal Magnificence, King Colin, Grand Ruler of the Kingdom of Blewbury, Emperor of Didcot, Defender of the Playclose and Master of the Cob Walls and his wife, Daphne, the Queen Consort, Empress of the Conservation Area, Fragrance of the Downs and Treasurer of the Bridge Club are worried about the royal succession. Nigel, Prince of Churn, doesn’t seem interested in getting married and the King and Queen are worried that the citizens of Blewbury will grow restless and turn the kingdom into a republic. Meanwhile, Baron Hardup and his wife Malaria are heading for destitution and are looking to find a wealthy husband for one of their daughters. But which one, Hernia or Urethra? Certainly not their other daughter, Cinderella, a modern young woman, who has just managed to complete the draft of her first novel in between doing all the chores about the house. Her Fairy Godmother, however, has other ideas and with resolve, good sense, strong values and magic changes the destinies of everyone. But how and for the better or worse? Come and find out at Blewbury’s very own pantomime, a show for all the family, full of fun, laughter, song, dance, colour and, above all, magic.
We would like to pass on our thanks to Elphin Lloyd-Jones who designed the set and costumes for Cinderella and donated his wonderful and colourful illustrations of the characters for an auction to raise money for Blewbury Players which will help us to update and maintain our equipment and facilities.
Blewbury Broadcasting Corporation BBC Online - The Lockdown Edition, 2021
The material is the result of collaboration between those who have been attending our Creative Labs Sessions during the last year. It has been an enjoyable way of keeping in touch through difficult times and happily been very productive.
As Blewbury Players did last summer, we have gathered, undeterred, via screens and have enjoyed working together. We have once again embraced 'the idiosyncrasies' of Zoom and present another show for our times. It includes an all new variety of sketches, songs and poems in the spirit of BBC Revues previously performed at the village hall.
