The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

In late 2017 Blewbury Players  performed The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in St Michael’s Church, Blewbury.  The play is adapted from the classic story by C S Lewis and was directed by Jo Laugharne and designed by Katie-Jane Whitlock and Loraine Fergusson.

St Michael’s was a particularly appropriate setting for this tale about the struggle of good over evil; Aslan, the lion, resurrected to vanquish the White Witch and thaw the frozen land of Narnia in time for Christmas.   The church was transformed into the magical land on the other side of the wardrobe. The weather also helped create the wintery temperatures on Narnia with the audience cosy in their winter coats and hats and snuggled under blankets and rugs.

Once again we received some lovely comments from our audiences…

“I just wanted to congratulate everyone on a really terrific show….Everyone agreed how magical the church looked, how inventive the staging was, and how brilliantly the actors took to their roles…the layers is so important and valuable to the village … something to be immensely proud of and supported.”

“WOW…awesome atmosphere scenery and the actors were awesome. Well done everyone involved on stage and back stage”

“Just back from Narnia in Blewbury Church – fantastic performance of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe – congratulations to all involved, we loved it”

“The spectacle was tremendous”

“Congratulations on a wonderful production! The church was the most atmospheric setting, especially the chill in the air. The cast were simply amazing, the costumes and props were inventive. We brought our two young grandsons to see their sister,Beatrice, and they were entranced. What a fabulous lasting memory for all of us. Can’t wait for the next adventure. Well done! “
