February Update

We can now confirm She Stoops to Conquer, by Oliver Goldsmith, as the summer production, a brilliant and very well-known play with a splendid cast of characters, to be directed by Lydia Milman Schmidt, introduced to us by Laura Baggaley, our Director Emeritus, who directed The Winter’s Tale for us in 2007 and Twelfth Night in 2009.

Auditions will be on 25th & 26th February. Please contact Peter Saunders on 850245 to arrange an audition. Small and big parts for adults of all ages and we anticipate some parts for children of about 12 or older. We also welcome local people who would like to be involved with other non-acting roles such as wardrobe, scenery, construction, etc…..

A new adaptation of Great Expectations by the well-known children’s author Julia Golding (better known to us as Julia Saunders) has been postponed till next year, the 201st anniversary of Dickens’s birth rather than the 200th!

Workshops, rehearsals and lots of fun & hard work are underway for the youth production of Under Milk Wood directed by Jo Laugharne. This will be performed on 30th & 31st March in Blewbury Village Hall. Box Office opens at the Post Office on 3rd March. This production is going to be very special as it involves children from school years 5 -12 working together. Youngsters are taking on roles in stage management, lighting, front of house and finances with adult mentors.

May Update

Song for Europe: World Premiere

Not long to go now… composers, singers & musicians are rehearsing like crazy in order to win the coveted title and trophy. You can almost smell the adrenaline… I think it’s adrenaline.

The ticket sales have gone well. At the time of going to press, there are still tickets left for the Premiere on Thursday May 19th evening… why not come along and be amongst the first people to hear these twelve new songs and perhaps see a new “star” of the future.

For people who have bought tickets, and for those hopefully that will buy tickets, now is the time to start thinking about what costume or fancy dress you might like to wear… you wouldn’t want to have made no effort when the table next to you are dressed like Greek Gods.

So there you have it, original songs, live music, friendly banter, fierce competition and a bar selling cocktails (such as The Slippery Shamrock and Greece Lightening)… how good can an evening be?

Who will win? Be there and be part of history in the making.

Remember… “Your country needs you”.

To buy tickets contact Sheila & Tony Loy on 01235 850537.

Peter Pan – Orchard Dene Garden Theatre from 20th – 23rd July

Box Office opens 11th June.

Thank you to all the enthusiastic and talented adults and children who auditioned. Congratulations to those who have been cast. We would like to give a huge thank you to those of you who did so well at the workshop and auditions but unfortunately did not get a part this time. We had many more talented children audition than parts available. What a lot of talented actors and actresses we have in Blewbury!

Request to anyone interested in becoming involved with the production of Peter Pan. There are many important non-acting roles that you could help with. These include set construction, wardrobe and costumes, catering for cast and crew, etc, etc… Please contact our production manager Susan Marshall on 01235 851591 if you would like to join in the fun!
